GRATITUDE

Today I picked up a “Touch of Grace” card online from Cheryl Richardson’s  website, and the message for me was Gratitude.

It was a reminder to me to be grateful for everything that appears in my life; the good and the not so good. I proceeded to do that with the utmost humility, and somehow I was led to this website of mine that I have so neglected for so long. I am truly grateful for all of you who have visited this site over the years and I apologize for not continuing the work I began here.

I am grateful for the internet access that allows me the opportunity to reach so many people all over the world who are searching for their own truths or who need encouragement and support in their situations.  I am grateful that I have a gift for writing and the freedom to write on whatever subject matter I choose.  I acknowledge that this is a privilege for which many people have paid a heavy price, and I honor those persons who do not enjoy such freedom.

This week I completed a job I had, working on behalf of a non profit organization. While this is financially painful, I am grateful that I have been given time to “breathe again”. Today, I left home later than usual and was happy that I didn’t have to rush. Today, I finally feel sufficiently relaxed to sit and post again on this site after more than a year’s absence.  To me, it’s a blessing.

I say all of this, to remind everyone to take time to express gratitude for the things and the people in your life. Don’t just do it when life is going good, but do it in the bad times as well.  There is always something that we can be grateful for, no matter how small it is.  Every morning when I take a shower, I express gratitude for fresh water, clean water, pipe borne water, hot and cold water. I do it because I see the pictures in my mind of people in some parts of Africa and other countries, how they live and how they have no pipe borne water. I do it because I remember the drought in California, and the concerns there, that have led to the discussion and research on sewer water being treated and tested for drinking purposes in the future.   Ow! Yes that’s exactly how I felt.  Just the thought of it made me shudder.

So remember, there is always something to be grateful for.  Allow yourself to feel the moment of gratitude, and who knows, if you’re having a bad day, that utterance of gratitude may just turn your day around.

Below are the links for a book I treasure, “The Unmistakeable Touch of Grace” and the accompanying Grace Cards, which gave me the topic for today’s post.

Until the next time….be blessed!

The Challenge of Fear

Napolean Hill, in his book, “Think and Grow Rich”,  writes as follows:

“Before we can master an enemy, we must know its name, its habits, and its place of abode.”

So in order to take on the challenge of eliminating fear in your life, I ask you the following questions:

What is your greatest fear?  Go ahead and name it and please be truthful to yourself.

According to Hill, some of our greatest fears are: POVERTY, CRITICISM, ILL HEALTH, LOVE OF LOVE OF SOMEONE, OLD AGE, AND DEATH.

Where does it live?  Is it only in your thoughts, your mind, or does it reside in other places like your job or your relationship?

What feeds your fears…or what triggers the emotions that fear brings with it?

Ask yourself, what is the worse thing that can happen if your fears materialized?

All human beings encounter fear in their lives or in various situations or circumstances.  The difference will always be in the way we respond to fear.

Oprah in one of her Life Classes, mentioned that she really experienced fear for the first time, when she decided to embark upon her OWN TV Channel….but she did it anyhow.

Do we “Feel the fear and do it Anyway,” as the title of Susan Jeffers book suggests, or do we allow fear to render us paralyzed and unable to move from our situation or mindset.

WHAT IF YOUR THOUGHTS REALLY DO CREATE YOUR REALITY?

Do you have the courage to change your way of thinking?

Napolean Hill considered Fear to be the first of the 7 Major negative Emotions.

They are Fear, Jealousy, Hatred, Revenge, Greed, Superstition and Anger.

Can you see how these emotions can feed upon each other?

“Faith and fear make poor bedfellows.  Where one is found, the other cannot exist.”

Those are also the words of Napolean Hill.  Today’s popular Preachers say that fear is the opposite of faith or faith in reverse.

Hill was of the opinion that “Fears are nothing more than states of mind.”

“Powerful and mighty is the human mind.  It builds or it destroys”.

Your mind is your spiritual estate.  Protect it, and use it with the care….to which divine royalty is entitled.

You either control the mind or it controls you.

All of the above are direct quotes from Napolean Hill’s, “Think and Grow Rich.”

The book was first published in 1937, during the Great Depression, and is still very relevant in today’s world.

When I started this post, the intention was not to make it a by product of Napolean Hill’s book,  but that is what showed up in my Notebook and that is what my fingers typed.  So for whatever it is worth,  I share it with you today.

I now understand what Dr. Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson and Neale Donald Walsh talk about when they say that words come to them and not from them.

Guess I am in pretty good company..

Maybe you will be encouraged to get a copy of that book and to read it, if you have not done so yet.  It’s worthy of being in your library collection.

As I leave, I want you to know that I too have my own fears, so I also speak from the experience of being paralyzed by fear.  I have had people say to me, “you have fears..I would never think so.”   Yes, I do.  After all, I’m human.

However, if you can go back to how it was to take your first step as a baby, you can treat fear in the same way.  Take one small step, one action to achieving your goal or to begin to eliminate your fear, and don’t look back…just keep moving forward.

Remember, in the words of William Ernest Henley,” I am the master of  my fate, I am the captain of my soul.”

Control your mind, control your thinking, and in so doing you will move towards controlling your fears and improving the quality of your life.

Negativity

Negativity

The world is filled with negativity.

All around us, there are negative people who drain our energy, negative situations which make us lose faith, and negative bank balances which creates fear.

In all of these situations, the choice is yours. You can choose to be a more positive person…a candle that lights the  dark streets of negativity.  Every time you realize, you are being negative, stop and change the thought or change your words.

Choose to see the glass as half full rather than half empty.

If the friends you keep tend to be negative thinkers, then maybe it’s time to find some new friends, who will support and encourage you in your personal growth, and grow along with you.  That way, you can achieve your goals so much faster.

In every bad situation, find something positive to be grateful for. You  would be surprised at how this can change your attitude and help you to become less stressed and more joyous.

Do as the song says: “count your blessings; name them one by one.”  You could also keep a Gratitude Journal to help you realize that despite your challenges, God is fighting your battles for you…if you let him, that is.

If the friends you keep tend to be negative thinkers, then maybe it’s time to find some new friends, who will support and encourage you in your personal growth, and grow along with you.  That way, you can achieve your goals so much faster.

You have the ability to change your bank balance from a negative to a positive. Remember the squirrel does not begin to store nuts in winter.  You can change your financial situation with discipline and persistence.  If you are unable to save 10% of your paycheck every payday, then save whatever you can, but you’ve got to do it, starting now.  It may mean making sacrifices, but the reward will be worth it.

Choose to be a positive person!

Choose to take responsibility for your actions and their consequences!

This is the winter of our time.

Choose to prepare for Spring!

HOW TO ELIMINATE TOLERATIONS IN YOUR LIFE

There are so many things we tolerate in our lives, day after day. Things that really irk us and raise our stress levels; things and people that steal our joy and drain our energy. We allow them to go on unabated because we are trying to avoid dealing with the crux of the matter.

So, what are you tolerating in your life right now?

An abusive spouse

Harassment on the job

Noisy neighbors

What have you done or what are you doing about it??……..nothing.  I got that right.  You don’t even want to think about it.

Well, now is your moment of truth.  Exhale, take some “me” time and get out a sheet of paper.

List your tolerations in the home, office and maybe even in your relationships.

Is there something you can do to change that situation to a more positive or healthier one?

Is there someone you need to speak to, and you have been avoiding it?

Is there something in your daily routine or schedule you can eliminate to make your day more meaningful?

What is the worse thing that can happen if you fail in your efforts?

What would be the end result if your efforts were successful?

Can you continue to ignore this toleration?  What would be the cost?

In reality (not TV), much of the cost would be on your emotional, physical and mental health.  What a price to pay!!!  So if you love yourself and if you value your health, go ahead and do what needs to be done.  It may not be as bad as it seems, and you may be pleasantly surprised at the outcome.

In some cases, there may be some situations which cannot be resolved immediately.  In those situations, I invite you to re-evaluate who you are in those situations…how you respond at those times.  Do you just simply react, everytime you are in that situation?

If you cannot change the situation, change who you are in the situation.

Then watch your life change for the better.

A time of Change

No one would dispute that this is a season of great change throughout the world.

A look at events in Tunisia, Egypt, happenings in Libya, natural disasters in Japan all re-inforce that we live in an ever changing world.

Our lifestyles and the ways in which we communicate, have changed dramatically in the last decade, and now the job market is changing constantly. Yesterday’s jobs are being outsourced to other countries, and today green jobs are increasing, young people are returning to farming and the health services jobs are becoming increasingly specialized.

My question to you (if the question resonates with you) therefore is why are you so opposed to change, when change is the only thing that is constant in this life?

If your answer is fear…(of the unknown), I challenge you to do something about it.  So now, you are wondering how would you do so?  You can take baby steps, like a toddler learning to walk.

How about doing something different every day for the next 7 days?

Take a different route to/from work.

Choose to eat something you’ve never had before or thought you would not like.

Call someone you’d like to get to know better and arrange a lunch date

Get a new and different haircut (highlights, streaks, etc???)

I’m sure you could come up with lots of different ideas; but at least you get the point I am trying to make.  Whatever, you choose to do, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the result.

So go ahead, shake off the fear, “feel the fear and do it anyhow”.

Step out of the box and you may well learn something new about yourself.

If the change that is coming has to do with your job, just remember that when one door closes, another one opens….but that can only happen if you stay open to possibility.  Above all, strengthen your spirituality….that is the foundation upon which you should build your life.

If you try this 7 day assignment, please send me feedback and let me know the outcome for you.
